PSL 2023: Multan Sultans Secure Second Victory with Usama and Rossouw Leading the Way

Usama Mir Puts Zalmi on the Back Foot
The match, played on Friday at the Multan Cricket Stadium, saw Saim Ayub lead the charge for Peshawar Zalmi until Usama Mir entered the game in the middle overs. The spinner hit perfect lengths and picked up quick wickets, including Tom Kohler-Cadmore in the 11th over and back-to-back wickets in the 15th over, when he bagged Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Saim. Usama’s bowling allowed Multan Sultans to come back into the match.

Saim and Haris Rescue Zalmi, but Saim’s Maiden Half-Century Wasn’t Enough
Set to chase a mammoth 211 runs, Saim and Mohammad Haris rescued Zalmi following skipper Babar Azam’s departure after scoring just nine runs. The two batters scored 47 runs together, with Saim scoring his maiden half-century to stabilise Zalmi’s innings after Haris’ run-out. Saim got bowled out for 53 runs off 37 balls laced with three boundaries and as many maximums.
Multan’s Bowling Takes Control
Ihsanullah, who bagged five wickets in the previous match, picked up three wickets, while Abbas Afridi took two wickets, and Carlos Brathwaite managed a scalp. Pacer Salman Irshad was the pick of the bowlers for Zalmi, claiming figures of 2-38 in four overs.
Rossouw and Rizwan Score Fifties, Set Zalmi a Target of 211 Runs
Earlier, Multan Sultans set Zalmi a target of 211 runs, thanks to fifties by skipper Mohammad Rizwan and middle-order batter Rilee Rossouw. Sultans scored 210-3 in their allotted 20 overs, with Rossouw playing an explosive knock of 75 runs in 36 balls, with the help of 12 fours and two massive sixes. Meanwhile, Rizwan, who opened the innings, scored 66 runs in 42 balls, including nine fours and a six.

Multan Retains Dominance on Points Table
After this win, Multan Sultans retain their dominance on the points table with four points in three matches. Multan lost their first match against Lahore Qalandars but bounced back to defeat Quetta Gladiators in their second game. Meanwhile, Zalmi began the tournament with a win over Karachi Kings before suffering defeat today.
