New captain Babar Azam leads the team
Peshawar Zalmi is gearing up for the upcoming season eight of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) under the leadership of new captain Babar Azam. The team has begun their training sessions in Karachi under head coach Darren Sammy, who was also the captain of the 2017 PSL winning team.

Strong Batting Lineup
Babar’s arrival has boosted Zalmi’s batting lineup, as he is considered one of the best batsmen in the world. He is expected to open for the team and has an impressive T20 record, scoring 8549 runs in 235 innings. He is also the current highest run-scorer in the PSL with 2413 runs in 68 matches.
Versatile All-Rounders
Zalmi’s batting lineup is strong with the addition of Mohammad Haris, who can hit the ball all around the park. The experienced Haris Sohail will balance the middle order, while young Saim Ayub is a useful option at one down. Power hitters Tom-Kohler Cadmore, Sherfane Rutherford, and Rovman Powell give Zalmi the brand of cricket they have been known for.
Local players Danish Aziz and Usman Qadir bring versatility to the team with their all-round abilities and leg-spin deliveries, respectively. Fast bowling all-rounders Jimmy Neesham and Aamer Jamal are good options for the team.
Struggling Fast Bowling Lineup
While Zalmi’s batting is strong, their fast bowling needs to gain experience. Wahab Riaz will lead the bowling line, which includes Salman Irshad and Arshad Iqbal. However, the other pacers in the department need more experience and may struggle under pressure. In spin bowling, they can rely on Usman Qadir, but in the absence of Mujeeb ur Rehman, they may need help to take wickets.
Zalmi’s PSL History
Peshawar Zalmi is the only team featured in all PSL playoffs and won their first and only title in 2017. They have also qualified for the final four times. Although they lost in the finals in 2018, 2019, and 2021, they remain a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming season.
