PSL 7 Opening Match
It is now time to prepare for the seventh edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League to start on a Thursday at the National Stadium in Karachi with the champions of the past, Multan Sultans taking on the champions of 2020, Karachi Kings following a curtain-raiser opening ceremony.
Babar Azam set the record for the most T20I wins in the captain’s role during a calendar year , with 20 wins in 2021. He will be the captain of Karachi Kings. Mohammad Rizwan, the first-ever batter to record greater than 1000 T20I runs during a calendar year will captain Multan Sultans.
Babar Azam said on the evening before the game: “I am very excited to lead Karachi Kings this season. The first time that I am captaining aside from the HBL PSL and I am excited about this.
“The opening match of the tournament is always a subject to many eyes and Multan Sultans could prove to be an extremely tough opposition. I am certain that the crowd will be treated to an exciting game.
“Peter Moores is an experienced coach and I’ve been able to have productive conversations with Peter Moores.
Karachi Kings will display good cricket, and will be competitive during the current season.”
Mohammad Rizwan said: “We have the ability to win the HBL PSL title and we will take to the field this morning with that attitude. This season will be filled with new challenges, and we’ll need to prepare accordingly.
“Babar Azam is a fantastic captain and batter. His leadership will definitely make a difference to Karachi Kings. I’m hopeful that the HBL PSL 7 will kick off with a thrilling match between the two teams.”
PSL 7 Second Day
On the second day of play that falls on Friday Quetta Gladiators will play Peshawar Zalmi. The match will be scheduled to start at 2pm PKT and the third day of the match on Saturday will give fans a double header with Multan Sultans playing Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings taking on Quetta Gladiators.
Lahore Qalandars, captained by Shaheen Shah Afridi who has experienced a meteoric increase in international cricket following his debut in the year 2018, will be hoping that the change in the leadership of the team results in a shift in their fortunes, and that they can win the coveted trophy.
Islamabad United are led by Shadab Khan. Sarfaraz Ahmed, the only player to lead his team through all seasons, will continue to lead his Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi will continue to be lead by Wahab Riaz.

HBL PSL Best T20 League
The HBL PSL has been able to establish it to be one of the best T20 leagues around the globe and has played host to some of the most sought-after cricketers around the globe. The level of competition in this league as well as the quality of the action has given young and aspiring Pakistan cricketers opportunities to improve the game, improve their skills and gain a better understanding of aspects of cricket.
The National Stadium will host the first 15 games until 7 February. Then, the action shifts to Lahore in the city of Gaddafi Stadium, the home of Pakistan cricket, will host the 19 final matches starting 10 to 27 February.
Peshawar Zalmi were the champions in 2017, when they defeated Quetta Gladiators in the final in Lahore in their first HBL PSL game played in Pakistan. Islamabad United became the champions for the second time after a victory over Peshawar Zalmi in Karachi in the year 2018. Quetta Gladiators got third time lucky in the year 2019. Karachi Kings made history in 2020 when they defeated their rivals Lahore Qalandars at home.
PSL 7 Team Standing and Position
The PCB has also adopted the ICC’s latest playing rules. If a team isn’t in a position to play their final over of the game at the time, one less fielder will be allowed beyond the 30-yard radius during the remaining innings during the match. There will be a reserve day to play the final should a winning result be not reached, the team that finishes first in at the top of group will become the champions.
In order to ensure that the team can continue the action during these unprecedented times in which we live, the PCB has permitted a team to play a playing XI made up of all local players in the event they cannot take on foreign players. Matches will continue in the event that a team is able to field at least 13 players on hand. In addition, the PCB has also set up an emergency reserve player pool.
